As a general rule, each year in the smartphone industry sees a new hyped feature. Just to explain what I mean, take the selfie camera for example. First, it was within a bezel, then we say notches, hole punch, and even pop-up selfie cameras. And in 2020 the battle seems to be not only with the display but also their refresh rates.

Focusing on the display, Oppo A54 comes with a big and bright 6.51 inches IPS LCD display panel. Look, dear reader, I cannot even get over the fact that it is not a 90Hz refresh rate like what we saw on Oppo A53. Seriously, Oppo had entered the A – league. But moving on, this panel does not disappoint when it comes to the resolution. We see a rather low 720 x 1600 pixels resolution with 270 PPI density. We’re thinking a compromise had to be made. And you will also notice the hole punch wherein the selfie camera lies.

Performance

Okay, the chipset Oppo A53 comes with is a rather dated Mediatek MT6765 Helio P35 (12nm) chip. MediaTek Helio P35 enables beautiful, all-screen smartphones with Full HD+ resolution displays and a 20:9 ratio. I honestly think when it comes to the performance then we would rather appreciate the fact that the Oppo A54 comes with either 4GB plus 128GB internal storage.

Still, under the hood is an Octa-core (4×2.35 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4×1.8 GHz Cortex-A53) CPU. The phone itself is powered by Android 10, with ColorOS 7.2. Now OPPO’s ColorOS 7.2 brings a range of innovative, easy-to-use features. Oppo A54 is an affordable smartphone with a triple camera setup. It comes with a 13MP main wide camera lens. This lens has an Auto-focus feature. Next is a 2 MP, f/2.4, (macro) 2MP depth sensor. This is not all. And I think I may have been mistaken when I say it has three cameras. It has yet another. Oppo A54 has an impressive 16 MP shooter capable of shooting 1080p@30fps videos just like the main 13MP lens. And in case you are wondering, a depth-sensing lens will come in handy when you want to blur the background of a portrait image.

Battery and more

Oppo A54 has a non-removable Li-Po 5000 mAh battery able to last up to two days of mixed usage. The best thing about it is that it does indeed support fast charging 18W via 2.0, Type-C 1.0 reversible connector.
