Introduction
Oppo’s latest smartphones under the Reno lineup have finally landed in Kenya. One of them is the Oppo Reno 5 4G which we will be discussing in this review to help you make a buying decision. There is also a Reno 5 5G version. As already mentioned, this phone packs a 6.43 inch OLED screen with a 90 Hertz refresh rate, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765g chipset, quad rear cameras, and a 4,300 mAh battery.
Unboxing
Unboxing the phone you get the SIM objector tool, the manuals, and a free jelly case. Underneath that is the phone itself, below it is the USB type C cable, a pair of earphones, and the charger. Starting at the back, you’ll see a protruding quad-camera module and the Oppo branding. The Oppo Reno 5 is available in two colors – black and silver. That clear case in the package you can use to protect this phone with.
Design
Form factor-wise, the Reno 5 feels really nice in the hands. It is made out of polycarbonate material and it has a glossy finish on it. It is thin and light at 180 grams so you won’t have issues gripping it. Well, maybe except for its tall frame. On the left, we have the volume buttons.
They’re made of plastic but are firm and easy to reach. On the right is the power button up to the top of the secondary microphone. Down at the bottom. the 3.5-millimeter audio jack, the main microphone, the USB-C port, and a loudspeaker.
Cameras
Now to the cameras of the Oppo Reno 5. It has a quad-camera set up consisting of a 64 megapixel main and 8-megapixel ultra-wide at 2-megapixel macro and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. Video recording brags at 4K@30fps, 1080p@30/60/120fps; gyro-EIS, HDR for its main camera and 1080p@30/120fps, gyro-EIS for the 44MP selfie shooter here.
Display
Focusing on its display Oppo Reno 5 features an immersive 6.43-inch screen with full HD plus resolution and a pixel density of 410 pixels per inch. It s a crisp and vibrant display as you would expect of an AMOLED panel and of 1080 x 2400 pixels resolution.
This does have thin bezels and the usual hole punch on the upper left four to 44-megapixel selfie shooter. Expect punchy colors and deep blacks. This phone is also equipped with a 90 Hertz refresh rate so you can enjoy smooth transitions. It gives you the option to change it to 60 Hertz in case you want to save more battery life.
Performance
Under the hood, the Oppo Reno 5 is powered with a Qualcomm SM7125 Snapdragon 720G (8 nm) chipset with an Octa-core (2×2.3 GHz Kryo 465 Gold & 6×1.8 GHz Kryo 465 Silver) CPU. And it is that Adreno 618 GPU that ensures Reno 5’s graphics are as top-notch as you will find them to be.
The phone does bring with it 128GB of internal storage alongside 8GB of RAM. Software-wise it runs on cColorOS 11.1 which is based on Android 11. A for the battery, it has a 4,300 million our capacity with support for SuperVOOC and fast charging 50W.
