Let’s see what’s inside the box of the A74 first. We have here the usual white box that reads Oppo A74. It opens up by sliding towards the top or bottom. Inside the box inside is a free jelly case, the paperwork, and a SIM injector tool. Underneath we get the phone itself. And then there’s a USB type C cable, the adopter free earphones here.
Design
Now the Oppo A74 sports a polycarbonate back with the curved glass delusion. It has a somewhat prism effect instead of a mirror-like style. And it feels sleek and lights the hold, although it is very prone to fingerprints smudges Prism Black, and Midnight Blue are the two colors available for this phone in case you are trying to decide. Other things you’ll find at the back are its protruding camera module, which houses its triple rear shooters and LED flash.
Located on the right side is the power button. While on the left are the volume rocker and card tray for two nano-SIM cards and a micro SD card (expandable up to 256 gigabytes). The buttons are firm and well-positioned near the middle of the frame so they are easier to reach. At the bottom, it’s 3.5-millimeter audio Jack, the primary microphone, USB type C port, and a loudspeaker.
48 MP camera
On the back of Oppo A74 what you see is a triple camera module consisting of a 48 megapixel wide, a 2-megapixel macro, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. In that notch area is a 16-megapixel selfie camera. Quality-wise using the standard mode gives you sharp and accurately colored shots with very good dynamic range. To get more vibrant outputs you can leave the AI mode turned on.
There’s no ultra-white mode available here. But you can zoom in 2X, 5X, and up to 10X. Its macro mode can be a hit or miss, but it does a decent job. On the other hand, if you want to take advantage of its 48-megapixel lens, then you can turn on the extra HD mode.
Performance
Moving on, you get 128 gigabytes of internal storage with a usable space of 101 gigabytes that can easily expand by a micro SD card. Powering this device is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 processor. It is paired with an Adreno 610 GPU and 6 gigabytes of RAM. Qualcomm SM6115 Snapdragon 662 (11 nm) was released in 2020 and is meant for lower mid-range phones.
It performs well for basic activities like social media scrolling, taking photos, video streaming, and some light gaming. You can unlock the phone using either a fingerprint scanner or face unlock and both work accurately.
Platform
We can talk about software now and Oppo A74 runs on Android 11 skinned with their own ColorOS 11.1. ColorOS is highly customizable and convenient. Of course, there are some bloatware and a few pre-installed apps like the usual Google apps, Lazada, Facebook, Netflix, etc which you can always uninstall.
One of the things you will like about this interface is its enhanced dark mode theme. You can also choose how dark you want it to be. Something we would advise others to copy. This one also has a beta dark mode theme for apps that don’t support native dark modes.
Display
Fliping to the front of Oppo A74 we get a vibrant 6.43 inch AMOLED display specifically with a 1080 x 2400 pixels resolution. And the pixel density of this phone’s display is 409 pixels per inch. Similar to the Oppo A73 it has gorilla glass 3 for protection and a pre-installed screen protector on top. Found on the upper left corner of the screen is its punch hole notch. Meanwhile, on top of it is the speakerphone. You can also find on the screen an in-display fingerprint scanner.
Quality-wise as expected with an AMOLED display, we get punchy colors, deep blacks, great contrast, and nice viewing angles. Only the 5G variant of the A74 is the one with a 90 Hertz refresh rate option. Instead, we only get the standard 60 Hertz which is honestly not that big of a deal. There’s an always-on display feature on this phone. Basic as far as customization goes alright. But it’s here!
Battery
As for connectivity and battery, Oppo A74 4G is equipped with wifi, Bluetooth, 5.0, GPS, dual SIM 4g, LTE screencast, and even FM radio. Now the 74 packs, a large 5,000 mAh battery with 33 Watts flash charge. This one will yield a total of about 20 hours and 37 minutes. But for real-world usage, it will really depend on how much you use the phone. The phone can last you a whole day of continuous usage nonetheless. Charging speeds are as follows: 54% in 30 minutes.
